About President’s Week and Spring Break Arts Specialties

BAX theater workshops encourage dynamic theater artists through visceral experiences engaging voices, bodies, and imaginations. Young actors will cultivate technical skills while working collaboratively through improvisational theater games and embodied storytelling.

Drawing on contemporary circus traditions, young artists will practice the art of storytelling through physical theater, partner acrobatics, animating objects, and character and caricature exploration. Participants work independently and collaboratively to establish their own fun and unique circus performance style.

Tumbling at BAX integrates movement from modern dance, gymnastics, and partner acrobatics to explore creative expression through inverted movement. Tumblers learn fundamental tumbling skills that help to increase their flexibility, balance, and awareness of space, shape and form.

In lively and action packed dance sessions, young movers use their bodies and imaginations to create their own movement and explore a variety of dance traditions that include modern, hip hop, ballet, acro, and more.

Drawing on familiar stories and/or instruments to create original songs, or using pre-recorded music, children explore their creative voices and the joy of music-making.

Young artists use their imaginations to explore various arts media projects that go beyond ordinary arts-and-crafts, creating a whirlwind of individual and group paintings, sculptures, collages, and drawings that engage different themes and reflect their view of the world.

Each day the NanoBAXers (Kindergarten- 1st grade) and Mega/Giga BAXers (2nd- 5th grade) engage in a unique, imaginative exploratory theme through a morning performing arts workshop and an afternoon visual arts workshop, both taught by guest arts specialists. A core staff of group leaders and counselors facilitate supplemental enrichment activities and social play.
