Our youth education festivals & events provide an opportunity for young people from a vast array of cultures and backgrounds to find a common bond through the performing arts. The YouthWorks Festival and Teen Arts Conference are structured to treat young artists with the respect given to professionals. They participate in the same process as the professional projects produced by BAX. All programs provide young people with options and choices in further education and careers. They are mentored by and learn from professional choreographers, playwrights, dancers, lighting designers and production staff and have exposure to the marketing and press aspects of producing a concert.
YouthWorks provides young creators, ages 8-18, with the opportunity to get hands-on experience developing and presenting their own original work in dance, theater, poetry, music, and performance. BAX provides each participant space to rehearse and the opportunity to work with professional artists in the performance field to aid in their creative process. READ MORE
Teen Arts Conference
For over 15 years, Brooklyn Arts Exchange’s Teen Arts Conference (TAC) has provided teen performing artists (ages 13-18) across New York City and beyond an opportunity to come together as part of a wider cultural community of learners and practitioners. The free, day-long conference offers a range of theater, dance, and movement workshops; panel discussions with professional artists, companies, and leaders in the field; and culminates with a Performance Gala in the BAX Theater, where the teen groups perform their work for each other and a public audience. Our students along with young artists throughout NYC and beyond enjoy multiple opportunities to perform in The Theater at BAX including seasonal student concerts, performing workshop showcases, Youthworks, and the Teen Arts Conference Performance Gala.
Student Concerts take place twice a year in the BAX theater space on the third floor. Over the course of a weekend, each of our approximately 40 classes has an opportunity to share their work with their families, friends and colleagues. Each specific concert lasts no more than one hour. The student concert weekend schedule is announced to families a month prior to the concert weekend. All student concert information is communicated directly from the Education Department via email and handouts. All other details including costumes and props are communicated in the two weeks leading up to the concerts, or announced during class by the class teacher. READ MORE
Additionally, our Performance Workshops and Youth Companies conclude the year with an independent concert or sharing showcasing original student work. BAXco performs throughout the year on stages throughout NYC and beyond. READ MORE
