BAX Teen Artists Learners and Leaders (TALL) Council
The TALL Council is a free and youth-led leadership community of engaged, ambitious and motivated teen artists eager to deepen their engagement with the performing arts. Throughout the year, the Council produces teaching and learning workshops as well as open studio and performance shares with peers and professional guest artists. The Council also attends pre-professional and professional performance events at BAX and throughout NYC. Membership to the TALL Council is open to BAX and non-BAX high school-aged students. The Chair of the TALL Council is Nasrene Haj, BAX Alumna and Director/Founder of The Creators Collective.
Nasrene Haj (TALL Council Chair) is a project-based arts manager who holds a liberal arts degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Cultural Studies encompassing dance, writing and Italian studies. Her interdisciplinary education led her to found The Creators Collective in 2012, an arts organization that provides resources for collaboration and mentoring across age and discipline. Some projects include Not So Silent Films, a filmmaking residency at a New York City public school and Collective Storytelling, a project bringing young and professional artists together to explore identity through writing and performance. She also works as the Project Manager for Cora Dance and holds the position as Chair of Teen Artists Learners and Leaders, the teen arts council at Brooklyn Arts Exchange. She welcomes the opportunity to connect and collaborate on new projects that empower both young and professional artists through the artistic process.

In 2015 and 2016, the TALL Council presented Throughline: A multi-disciplinary showcase featuring works by emerging artists ages 15-25. The showcases, which were curated and produced by the TALL Council, included the work of artists working in dance, theater, music, video, photography, painting, drawing, and sculpture. The showcases included a Gallery portion and a Performance portion, and provided artists with opportunities to receive peer and audience feedback.
The TALL Newsletter
During the 2014-15 school year, the TALL Council created a monthly periodical to serve as a platform for sharing information from past meetings, reflections and personal essays from TALL Council Members, and upcoming opportunities for teen artists at BAX and beyond. Check out past issues of the Newsletter below. If you would like to receive TALL updates or future newsletters, please email TALLcoordinator@bax.org.
