Playspace Activities include hoops, tunnels, coloring, balls, books and are with the help of the Playspace facilitator. Dana O. O (In-house Teacher), a Park Slope native, is thrilled to be returning to BAX for another summer. A recent graduate of the Theatre Department at Northwestern University, Dana has worked with the District 65 Drama Department, teaching classes and workshops in theater around the Chicagoland area. She has also served as Artistic Director of Purple Crayon Players, Northwestern’s nationally recognized theater company producing works for young audiences, where she has particularly focused on the development of new works for very young children. Modern II Using a foundation in integrated movement (dancing with the whole body), Modern II students begin to learn more formal dance technique. Rhythm and musicality begin to come into play as students explore music in dance through solo, duet, and group pieces. Acting II Students deepen vocal, movement and improvisational skills through a series of structured exercises that emphasize proper vocal technique, stage movement, blocking and creative thinking within a scene. Modern III A class for more experienced dance students, Modern III serves as a survey course of different kinds of dance. AcroBAXers The AcroBAXer class, structured in a workshop format, is our most advanced tumbling class. It's intended to build strength and teach tumbling and acrobatic dance skills to an ensemble of committed and experienced young performers ages 9-12. They use a wide array of skills: tumbling, cartwheels, handstands, headstands, extensive partnering, backbends and walkovers as well as circus skills to build expressive work together as an ensemble. Kat Stansell (In-house Teacher) has had a knack for teaching since she was in high school. She allowed teaching into her lifestyle as a means of learning about herself and communicating to others the joys of movement. Kathleen, a native of Mississippi and Honors Dance graduate of University of Southern Mississippi, currently resides and works in Brooklyn. She believes we all need expressive movement within our lives to balance us mentally, physically, and spiritually. She teaches a wide range of dance forms including Creative Movement for Toddlers, Gymnastics, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Modern. To express her own inner voice, Kathleen is also learning and teaching herself how to use dance and performance to educate the public on social issues through her dance collective, Move for Change. Tumbling IB Using exercises from yoga to gymnastics, this class supports fundamental motor skills and challenges students in their beginning stages of development. Students learn backward and forward rolls, logrolls, somersaults, headstands and handstands, and the basics of balancing, while encouraging body strength. | Ages 5-6 | Diane Diane Tomasi(In-house Teacher) Diane began her teaching in 2001 and has taught ongoing classes, and workshops in and around the US, including New York, Alaska, and Massachusetts as well as the UK. Her teaching repertoire includes gymnastics and tumbling, modern, ballet, and contact improvisation. Diane moved to New York in 2006 and has danced with choreographers such as Taras Kardashov, Rainey Welch, and currently Sunhwa Chung. The company members are also ambassadors for BAX programs, performing throu | Ages 13 & up | year-long program with auditions in September | Donna and Gina Donna Costello(In-house Teacher, Youthworks Coordinator, DPW I Director, BAXco Co-Director) Donna has a diverse background and has had the pleasure of working with an inspiring group of choreographers over the past years including: Stephan Koplowitz, Barbara Mahler, Juliette Mapp, Naomi Goldberg Haas, Melissa Briggs, Pele Bauch, and Kelly Bartnik. Ms. Costello is currently a teaching artist for Lincoln Center Institute, BAX, and Dance New Amsterdam. She began teaching at BAX in 1999 and this marks her fourth year directing DPW I.
Gina Kohler Gina is a Brooklyn based independent choreographer, teacher and yoga instructor. She continues to share her work internationally and throughout New York City and is passionately developing her current project, dream [factories] both a live art event and book in the making. Gina is an interdisciplinary artist and continues to imagine the endless capacity for dance making thru multiple mediums. She believes in the importance of artistic living and collaboration as a life long practice and is honored to begin this partnership with BAX. | Price: $350 per year |

This workshop guides students at their level of experience through the three facets of musical theater: acting, singing, and dance.
